Members of HUMSNIST organise a Summer School for PhD students every two years. The theme varies depending on the hosting member, but will be linked to the four key research areas of HUMANIST.
The Summer School is intended primarily for PhD students, but it open to engineers, industry, researchers, consultants and public bodies in the following fields: transportation and traffic, information and communication system design, automotive/truck and bus/ powered‐two‐wheeler industry, human factors and ergonomics, psychology and sociology.
During the Summer Schools, lectures, discussions and practical exercises involve the participants in an active way, learning about recent developments in the HUMANIST research areas and new methodologies.
The theme of the Summer School was "Human Factors and Design for Future Mobility". The Summer School aimed to bridge science and practice in the field of human-centered mobility.
Each morning featured presentations from universities and industry, while the afternoons were dedicated to a three-day design challenge for PhD students, organized by the RE:LAB s.r.l. team.

The main topic of this Summer School session was "Human Factors, Automated Driving and Active Mobility with 2 focusses:
Psychological fitness to manage automated driving
Changing mobility behaviour towards more active travel: measuring 'experience' and cultural factors"
The Humanist Summer School 2019 provided good insight into research in the area of Human Factors issues linked to the autonomous car challenge. The Summer School is a meeting place for Young and Senior Researchers, PhD or Professionals and offered plenty of opportunities to interact!
